The Maude, She Oaks and Steiglitz communities are flanked by the prestigious Brisbane Rangers National Park in south-central Victoria. Maude
Enjoy riverside picnics, walks and fishing at Perdrisat Road bridge in the Moorabool Valley.
Maude Recreation Reserve offers a range of facilities being situated at the site of the former Maude Primary School: A covered rotunda with tables, bench seats and a free electric barbeque. Outdoor picnic tables and seating, interpretive signage, grassy picnic areas, two Bocce courts, new native planting areas, an outdoor free electric barbeque with all ability access, campfire pit with cooking hot plate and rack, small junior playground, walking path, toilets, car parking and free camping.
Camping is free and is permitted for 48 hours. The site is attended by volunteers and donations are appreciated. As per all picnic areas in the Maude, Steiglitz and She Oaks area all rubbish must be taken with you. No bookings are required. The site is listed on Wiki Camps and has a 5 star rating.
Magnificent views of the Moorabool Valley between Maude and Lethbridge, surrounding areas, regular flights of Wedge Tailed Eagles, stunning sunset views and the night-time sky, from the inspirational Bunjil’s Lookout, makes the site well worth visiting.
Across the road from the lookout site, the Maude Recreation Reserve also includes the Maude Tennis Shed, two tennis courts, a cricket practice pitch, a swing set and toilets.

The Bert Boardman Recreation Area (Picnics).
Located in the main Steiglitz township includes, information on the area, toilets, picnic tables, a fireplace, untreated running water and a gas barbecue. The Steiglitz recreational area, with a rich wildflower habitat, is attractive for picnics, bird, nature and geology studies and walks, has been named after Bert Boardman, a well regarded local Councillor (1948 to 1976). The Boardman family have been prominent residents and owners of various businesses in the Steiglitz region since Bert's grandfather Robert, originally from England, walked from Lara to Steiglitz in 1852/53. Robert Boardman was most well known for his research on Cinnamon Fungus, a fungus which attacks the trees and bushes in the Steiglitz National Park. He also famously convinced the SEC to install concrete light poles in the area, to avoid destruction by bush fire.

Fridays Camping and Picnic Area Picnics and camping).
Head down Regent St (Steiglitz) which becomes Steiglitz-Durdidwarrah Rd and cross the wooden bridge. In approximately 2km you will arrive at Fridays camping and picnic area. This delightful and secluded area has numerous picnic tables and bush barbecues. There is an information board which provided details of local walks and attractions. There are toilet facilities and tank water. Bookings are required for camping and fees apply. Book on-line.
Steiglitz Court House (Picnics, walking tracks).
Built in the early 19th century the Steiglitz Court House is one of the remaining buildings that has survived from the gold rush era. It is usually open for a visit on Sunday afternoons and houses early photos, information of the era and relica. There is an excellent information area at the adjacent parking area displaying details on local walks, history, and flora and fauna of the area.
Grahams Creek (Picnics).
Follow Eclipse Rd (off the Meredith-Stiglitz Rd) for approximately 2.5km. Head down to Graham's Creek where there is a lovely picnic area with a bush barbeque and picnic tables and chairs. The 1.5km of gravel road to the picnic ground is suitable for two wheel-drive vehicles. Please note there are no toilets or water and overnight camping is not permitted.
Sutherlands Creek (Gold panning, permit required).
Try your luck panning for gold near the bridge BUT note a permit is required. Park in the Church parking area or the Steiglitz Court House parking area and wonder down to the creek. The creek is often dry so choose a time after rain. This is the only area where gold panning is permitted by Parks Victoria, but do remember to get a permit as the penalties are not insignificant.
Sharps Crossing (Camping, picnics and swimming).
There is a large pull-off are next to Sharps Bridge which crosses the Moorabool River. This is a lovely spot for a cool swim. Please note there are no barbeque or toilet facilities. Please do not light a fire if it is hot and windy and conditions are unsuitable and never on a total fire ban day.
Coopers Bridge (Swimming).
Coopers Bridge is situated on the Meredith-Steiglitz Road and crosses the Moorabool River. There is a large pull-off area where you can park. Below this there is an excellent swimming area.
